Overview
Working in Serbia: what you need to know
Serbia has been expanding its industrial base. Automotive and component manufacturing in cities such as Niš and Kragujevac, along with logistics, construction and agriculture, create demand for assembly, warehouse and site workers. Belgrade also has a growing services and technology sector.
Serbia is an EU candidate country and its labour law has moved closer to EU standards. It is not part of the Schengen area, so travel to other European countries is more restricted than from an EU member state.

Worker rights
Your rights and legal protections in Serbia
Serbia's Labour Law provides for a written contract, at least 20 working days of paid annual leave, a 40-hour standard working week and extra pay for overtime and night work. The Labour Inspectorate handles complaints. Workers are covered by pension and health insurance contributions. Foreign workers need a work permit and a residence permit tied to their employer, so changing jobs usually means a new permit.
Embassy and emergency contacts
Nepal's diplomatic missions provide consular services, help with passport renewal and, in serious cases, support with disputes and repatriation. Which mission covers Serbia depends on the country, so note its contact details before you travel.
Keep copies of your passport, visa, contract and employer details, and share them with your family. You can also call or WhatsApp our Kathmandu office at +977 9851062224.
Nepali community
Nepalis in Serbia
Serbia's Nepali community is small. Most workers are around industrial zones and Belgrade, and keep in touch through Facebook and WhatsApp groups. Wise, MoneyGram and bank SWIFT transfers are commonly used for remittance.

Costs depend on the destination and the job, and service charges are limited by DOFE rules. They usually include the medical, visa, orientation, insurance and the agency service charge. Ask for a written breakdown before you pay, keep every receipt, and use the DOFE Fee Estimator on this site to check the usual items.
What documents are required to work in Serbia?
Common requirements are a valid passport with enough remaining validity, passport photographs, academic or trade certificates, a CV and a medical report from an approved clinic. See the Document Checklist on this site and ask us about the exact list for your job.
How long is the flight from Kathmandu to Serbia?
The flight from Kathmandu to Serbia is around 11 hours in the air. Routes usually connect through a Gulf hub or Delhi, so total travel time is often 12 to 18 hours.
Can I change my employer in Serbia after arriving?
