The work
What does a driver do?
- Operate assigned vehicle safely and within destination traffic rules
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection
- Maintain driving logs and report incidents promptly
- Coordinate with dispatcher/supervisor on routes and schedules
- Assist with loading/unloading where required
A typical day
Light-vehicle drivers (delivery, sales, executive) typically work 8 hours with one rest break. Heavy drivers (truck, bus) run 10–12 hour shifts including loading time, with regulated rest periods. Most Gulf drivers convert Nepali licence to destination-country licence within 60–90 days of arrival.
How employers assess candidates
Employers usually ask to see your licence and driving history and may run a short driving assessment. Many destinations require you to convert your Nepali licence after arrival, which the employer normally arranges.
Career path
Driver → Senior driver / dispatcher → Transport supervisor → Fleet manager. Many drivers also progress to entrepreneurship — buying their own vehicle on return.
