Employer process
How to hire Nepali workers: the process
The steps from your first enquiry to a worker's arrival, following Nepal's foreign employment rules. Timing depends on the destination, your paperwork and embassy processing.
Step by step
Each step in detail
What happens, what we help with and what the employer needs to provide.
Step 1
Discuss your requirement
You tell us the roles, numbers, salary, benefits and destination. We explain the Nepal process and agree service terms in writing.
What we do
- We review your roles, salary, accommodation, food, transport and contract duration.
- We explain the minimum conditions Nepal and the destination country expect before a demand letter is accepted.
- We agree our service terms with you in writing before work starts.
Employer action
Share your company registration documents, proposed job descriptions, salary and benefit details.
Step 2
Prepare the demand letter
The employer issues a demand letter on company letterhead listing roles, numbers, salary and benefits, together with a power of attorney in favour of the Nepali agency.
What we do
- The letter must state job titles, numbers, monthly salary, overtime, accommodation, food, medical cover, transport, contract duration, leave and air tickets.
- It names Power Support as the Nepali agency and must be signed by an authorised signatory.
- We check the draft for the common reasons demand letters are sent back, such as vague job titles or missing benefits.
Employer action
Review, sign and stamp the demand letter. Keep your company registration valid for the contract period.
Step 3
Attestation and DOFE approval
The demand letter is attested as required for the destination and then submitted for approval to the Department of Foreign Employment (DOFE) in Nepal.
What we do
- Attestation usually involves notarisation in the destination country and attestation by the Nepali mission, with further verification in Kathmandu where required.
- Requirements differ by country and can change, so we confirm the current steps with you before you start.
- We submit the file to DOFE and follow it up. Workers cannot be selected until the demand letter is approved.
Employer action
Arrange notarisation and embassy attestation as advised. We tell you which documents and fees apply.
Step 4
Candidate sourcing and shortlisting
We source candidates against your demand letter, check their documents and present a shortlist.
What we do
- We search our applicants and announce the vacancies through the channels Nepal's rules allow.
- We check passports, certificates, experience and basic fitness for the role.
- You receive shortlisted CVs with the supporting certificates.
Employer action
Review the shortlist and tell us your selection criteria and any further requirements.
Step 5
Interview and trade test
Employers can interview candidates by video or in Kathmandu. For skilled trades a trade test can be arranged.
What we do
- Trade tests for trades such as welding, electrical work, plumbing and driving can be held at approved testing centres.
- We schedule interviews at a time that suits your time zone.
- You confirm your selection in writing.
Employer action
Confirm selected candidates in writing and sign the employment contracts.
Step 6
Medical examination and documents
Selected workers have a medical examination from an approved clinic for the destination. Only fit candidates go forward.
What we do
- The medical depends on the destination. Gulf destinations use approved medical centres. Malaysia and other countries use their own approved clinic arrangements.
- We check passports, certificates, photographs and police reports where needed.
- Workers must also make the payments Nepal requires, such as insurance and welfare fund contributions.
Employer action
Provide any extra documents the destination immigration authority requires.
Step 7
Visa processing and Labour Permit
We support visa processing with the destination country's authorities and the worker obtains the Labour Permit from DOFE.
What we do
- The visa file includes the contract, demand letter, medical report and employer documents.
- The Labour Permit from DOFE is mandatory for any Nepali worker going for foreign employment.
- We follow up on the visa status and tell the worker what is happening.
Employer action
Make sure the visa or work permit is issued as agreed and confirm the air-ticket arrangements.
Step 8
Orientation and travel
Workers complete the mandatory pre-departure orientation and then travel.
What we do
- The orientation covers the destination's laws, workers' rights, emergency contacts, banking and daily life.
- We tell the worker what to carry and share the flight details with you.
- Please arrange reception, accommodation and onboarding at your end.
Employer action
Arrange pick-up, accommodation and onboarding for arriving workers.
Employer checklist
What you need to provide
These are the usual items from the employer side. We confirm the exact list for your destination.
- Valid company registration certificate (covering the contract period)
- Business or trade licence, where applicable
- Company letterhead and authorised signatory details
- Job descriptions with role titles, duties and required skills
- Proposed monthly salary (at or above the destination's minimum wage)
- Benefits: accommodation, food, medical, transport
- Contract duration and renewal terms
- Air-ticket arrangement (who pays initial and return tickets)
- Visa or work permit sponsorship confirmation
- HR contact for worker onboarding
Timing
How long does it take?
We do not promise a fixed number of days because several steps depend on third parties.
- Attestation and DOFE approval depend on how quickly the employer completes notarisation and embassy attestation.
- The Gulf and Malaysia are usually faster than Europe.
- In Europe the employer first obtains a work permit in the destination country and workers then apply for a long-stay visa.
- Embassy and visa appointment times vary by season.
- Complete, correct documents at the start save the most time.
After you send your requirement, we will give you an estimate based on the destination and the roles.

Send us your manpower requirement.
Tell us the roles, the number of workers and the destination. We will get back to you to discuss the next steps.
